Dear Friends, Here bellow you can ask your questions which will be answered briefly by our TECHNOLOGICAL consultant, Mr. Frank Pantzaris, a well known expert and consultant in tropical oils based in England.

You can ask ONLY TECHNOLOGICAL general questions that can be easy to answer (something like FAQ). Please do not ask questions about prices and companies. All questions pls send to info@palmoil.com with a mark "Q&A".

"I am taking this opportunity to request all people who ask me questions to help me, if possible, by telling me something about their background and country so that I might phrase my answers accordingly. For example, students, technologists and traders need a different kind of explanation. Regards, FP."

1 - In process of 100% CPO refinery to 95% RBDPO + 4.5%PFAD + 0.5 % Losses, the price different between CPO to RBDPO from the world market is around USD. 40/MT cost of process. How many persent of this price (40 $) is benefit and how many persent of this price is costs of production ( fuel, energy , salary,...)? 2 - How is the economical value and application of CPO refinery derivatives ? Thank you so much for your kind attention in advance.

Dear Sir, I am working for a palm oil refinery and I was wondering about the storage temperature of RBDPO. Our optimum storage temperature is at 70-80C but this seems to raise the PV value beyond 2.5 Any other reason or factor that you think is most critical to the PV value so that we can store at the stated temperature ? Thank you so much.

I am working as a quality in palm oil company in Indonesia. Some customers want to know anisidine value (AnV) for our palm oil and palm olein product. Before we never check for this anisidine value. Can give me information value (range) for AnV for fresh palm oil and palm olein? Thank's
beni
Dear Mr Beni, You are not saying what kind of PO factory you are, or whether you are referring to CPO or RBD PO. The Anisidine Value (An V) test measures the aldehydes and ketones which are secondary products of oil oxidation and it is analogous to the PV which measures the primary oxidation products. It used to be specified for Malaysian CPO of special quality in the early days of that industry and it is still being used today by some researchers and and end users, but I have never seen it in the specifications of mass produced RBD PO supplied from Malaysia/Indonesia. From what I remember from my experience it was 0-5, but I never found it much good and you cannot be doing every test any one can ask. If it is not in your selling specification, I recommend you do not give it to your customers as you could be making a rod for your own back. Just say our specification is x,y.z, we do not test the AnV, but I will gladly send you a sample of our oil for your approval. Regards, FP (27.01.2012)

I am working as Vice President in one of the leading Edible oil industry in South India. We would like to go for manufacture of speciality fats like CBS, CBE or CBR from Palm Kernal oil. Please enlighten us about what are the products that could be manufactured from Palm kernal oil apart from CBS. What are the other possible products from Palmkernel oil apart from CBS and CBR.

Hello sir, i want to know how to decrease MFO used in boiler. For your information, our boiler is packaged boiler. We already installed economizer, thermal daerator, and some equipments with autmoized system. Our boiler capacity is about 11 mt/hour and consumed about 7500 to 8000 lit/mt MFO. The question here is, how it was related to the efficiency of the boiler as we decrease the MFO consuming for a month. The price is too high to be match with our company margins.

Hello Mr. Frank, I often see on CBS specifications the following three information: Iodine Value; Slip Melting Point; Colour (Lovibond 5.25” cell)- RED. What are the ideal values for these specs and what role they play in the taste or appearance when making chocolate. One chocolate maker told me that the iodine should be around one and that it if it is higher thank 2 it makes the chocolate taste waxy is this true.

Dear Mr Pantzaris, I wonder if you can help me? I am a small-time manufacturer of soaps based in England. I have been lead to believe that rather than using expensive equipment, 80/20 (palm/coconut) soap noodles can instead be reconstituted by mixing with melted stearic acid and a heated mix of propylene glycol, sorbitol and glycerine. The resulting combination may then be poured into moulds whereupon it will set in around 2 hours. Can you please tell me if you believe such a technique to be feasible? I can naturally trial it to find out, but before doing so I felt it best to ask an expert such as yourself who might be able to tell me that a) I am wrong, or b) give me some tips. Thanks for any advice you can give me.

On top of the question regarding low SAFA CBS, ours are mainly from hydrogenated palm kernel fractions or CNO with low trans, Usually less than 5%. But the saturated fat content is as high as >90% due to C12:0, C14:0, C16:0 and C18:0. Therefore planning to try on low SAFA CBS. Going through few articles stated that replacing the saturated fat with unsaturated fat is preferrable. But I have no idea on this. Is there some kind of technology for the low SAFA, or actually can obtain this by just blending of two oils? Thanks.

Hi Mr. Frank. Recently global trend goes for low SAFA fat and I come across with low SAFA cocoa butter substitute. Any idea how to get the low SAFA CBS?CBS is all the while lauric-based, and C12:0 content is always >40%. Does it possible to obtain low SAFA CBS by blending of two different oils? Thanks.

Dear Mr. Frank, I have a situation as below: We import olien by bulk and it has some dust, high FFA, high PV and color is dark. So we use Magnesol R60 to make it better with filter lift. But we collect result unexpectation. Oil lighter - FFA and PV reduce a bit but oil has stronger smell before filter. So we dont know why and please advise to us the reason make its becomes worse and can use R60 in cooking oil? Thanks and Best regards, Andy Dang
